About Dionysus
"If you want to stretch your gastronomic
boundaries, link up with Dionysus Wine & Food Society. This
remarkable society founded in 1973 attracts women who have a passion
for knowing more about wine and food - where to get the freshest
produce, where to eat the latest cuisine and what are the current
trends in imbibing the grape. With 38 years of continuous and
flourishing operation, Dionysus spans the generations from mid 30's
to 80's plus.
The common focus for women from disparate walks
of life is the love of wine and food and how we can increase our
education in these areas. Our aim is not for the faint-hearted, you
learn to critique both food and wine, you host luncheons and you
need to be prepared to take your turn in making the club function
and keep abreast of what is happening in gourmet circles.
The spin-off is that you make the most amazing
life-long friends whose passions for culinary and vinicultural
pursuits transcend whatever differences you may have. If you are up
for the best time to re-create yourself on the third Monday of the
month, join us!"
Membership
Being a member of Dionysus is very rewarding. If
you think you would like to join Dionysus you must first attend two
lunches as a guest. If you do not know a Dionysus member you may
contact the current club President to arrange this. See the 'About'
link above for current contact details.
Once you have attended two lunches as a guest you
will be invited to join Dionysus and given a copy of the club rules
and code of conduct. A one off joining fee and the annual membership
fee confirms acceptance of the invitation to join. The cost of
attending each monthly lunch is currently $80 and payable to the
club Treasurer on the day of the lunch. To ensure that each monthly
lunch runs smoothly, members are required to RSVP to the club
Secretary on the date stated in the monthly newsletter. Failure to
RSVP will result in the member being charged for the lunch even if
she doesn't attend.
After being a member for more than six months you
will be asked to participate in 'critiquing' either a food or wine
course at a lunch and after being a member for over a year you will
be rostered to host a lunch. There is a huge amount of support from
older members for new members undertaking these tasks for the first
time as this is the cornerstone of learning in the club. After being
a member for a few years you will be asked to consider being on the
Committee. The longevity and success of Dionysus is due to the
skills and talents of its members.
If you are interested in joining Dionysus call
club President Louise Esdale on 07 3891 2454r email

more details.
